Some associates of Abubakar Malami, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, received exotic cars as gifts.

Cars such as Toyota Prado, Lexus, Toyota Hilux and Mercedes-Benz were handed over to them a week after the minister announced his candidacy for governor.

Malami plans to succeed Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State in 2023.

Some of the beneficiaries are workers from the Khadimiyya for Justice and Development Initiative, a foundation set up by the minister.

Defending the action of its director, Umar Gwandu, the minister’s spokesman, said that “friends and associates of Malami have donated and distributed vehicles to long-time workers of the Khadimiyya Foundation”.

The giveaways, however, drew criticism, especially on social media.

Malami is one of the ministers reappointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
