The phone app will save users time while waiting for buses and allow them to quickly check transfers and plan excursions. Source The Journal Times, Racine, Wis. (TNS) – In addition to electrifying 25% of RYDE Racine’s bus fleet, the Racine area transit system on Monday announced the official launch of a new automated vehicle search smartphone app that gives users real-time bus location data, arrival and departure times.
“The Town of Racine is using smart technology to improve municipal services and improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Mayor Cory Mason. “This is a great example of the major strides several City departments have made in integrating technology solutions to better meet the needs of our community. Residents and visitors can download the free app by searching “RYDE Root Transit” in the app stores on Android and Apple devices.
The phone app will save passengers time waiting for buses and allow them to quickly search for connections and plan journeys. An additional feature of the app designed to help the visually impaired will make an audible announcement when passengers approach their stop while driving. The app’s system map can be updated in real time if routes or schedules change due to construction or rerouting. “The launch of this app is an important part of an overall effort to modernize our transit system,” said Trevor Jung, director of transit at Racine. “Improvements like this will improve the customer experience for our passengers and make using public transit a more viable transportation option.”
